He was a soldier of the Revolution. Enlisted in December, 1777,under Capt. John Worthley of North Yarmouth for three months;marched to Danbury, Conn., thence to Peekskill, N. Y., andserved there at King's Bridge, White Plains and Tarrytown forfour months. Discharged in March, 1778. He did not have awritten discharge. He was in Col. Fogg's Regiment, Gen.McDougal's Brigade. He enlisted again June 1, 1779, atNewburyport, Mass., on board the Continental or StateBrig-of-War "Pallas," Capt. James Johnson, for an expeditionagainst the British at Penobscot, called the "BagaduceExpedition." This brig carried 16 guns. He continued in theservice until the expedition closed, and was discharged inSeptember, 1779. The brig was cruising off Gouldsboro when theBritish fleet arrived, and, consequently, escaped the fate ofthe remainder of the American ships. He applied for a pensionAug. 17, 1832, his residence being in Freeport, Me., to whichtown he removed in 1785. Certificate Oct. 25, 1832, for land andsea service. Robert Anderson of Lewiston, Me., 75 years of agein 1832, testified to service with Soule in Capt. Worthley'scompany. Samuel Scales of Freeport, Me., 75 years of age in1832, was with him in the armed brig "Pallas" in 1779.
