Narrative
Known as Deacon John to distinguish him from his famous son. Heled a rural existence hardly different from that of hisforebears except for an ardent involvement in the local parishand a determination that his son John, born in 1735, should goto Harvard College and become a clergyman. He was a cordwainerand farmer, residing in Braintree, now Quincy, Mass.
