Narrative

He moved to North Yarmouth, Me., about 1726; was received intothe First Church there 1731. He was assessor of the town in1733, constable 1734, selectman many times. In 1742, he carriedletters from Boston to the eastern frontier for GovernorShirley. He was the first representative of the town of NorthYarmouth to the General Court of Massachusetts. He was captainof Company F, Sixth Massachusetts Volunteers (Col. SylvesterRichmond's) in the siege of Louisburg and the expedition againstthe French in 1745. He had no children. He divided his estate,after his wife's death, between her son, Thomas Scales, andCornelius Soule, his brother Barnabas Soule's son.Cornelius Soule's Journal of a Downeast Journey from theMassachusetts Archives (Vol. XXXVIII) as reprinted in Old Timesin North Yarmouth, pp,862-864In 1742 he acted as a messenger for Governor Shirley intransporting some official letters from Boston to the easternfrontier. this is an extractof his journal presented as an expense account. The total herequested was £9, 6,10 which included £5 for his time andtrouble. £2 was deducted from that payment.-"Satter Day, July 3,1742, being bound by watter to Casco Bay,waited on his Excellency ye Governour for His Commands, promisedto stay in Boston till Monday for Letters for Notifying yeIndians of the Enterview: went and Hired a Horse to Ride as faras North Yarmouth, Pd for his Hire 10s New Tenour.-Monday, July 5, Waited on His Excellency at the Time appointed,Who informed me yt Mr Secretary could not be found, and yelatters could not beready tilll Tuesday Ten Clock.-Tuesday, 6, Waited in Mr Secretary,.
