Narrative
Henry Chapin at an early age entered on a seafaring life; wasimpressed on board a British ship and served seven years, andwas in an engagement with the Dutch; afterwards, he commanded amerchant ship sailing between London and Boston. Tired of thesea, he came to Springfield in 1659, and shared with Japhet hisfather's gift of lands in Chicopee. There he built his house.
