Obituary - Francis D. GravesFRANCIS D. GRAVES, FLOUR BROKER, DEAD - WELL KNOWN IN WHOLESALECIRCLES - BROTHER IS GOV. SMITH'S SECRETARYFrancis DeWitt Graves, 60, well known in local wholesalecircles, died suddenly yesterday noon at the home of hisdaughter, Mrs. Charles H. Weymouth, Jr. of 40 Birnie Road,Longmeadow. He was born at Albany, N.Y., and came to this cityin 1913, becoming local manager for the Pilsbury Flour Company.Mr. Graves made a host of friends in the wholesale businesshouses here, and in 1921 left his position with the Pillsburyconcern to become a partner in Graves & Brown, wholesale flourbrokers, with offices in the Massasoit building and later in theCommercial Trust building. Since 1921, Mr. Graves had devotedhis entore time to this concern and steadily increased theregard with which he was held by those who came in contact withhim in business and social life. He was noted for his unassumingmanner and for his strict sense of fairness in business dealing.Beside his daughter, Mrs. Weymouth, with whom he had made hishome for the last few years, he leaves one brother, George B.Graves of Albany, secretary to Gov. Alfred E. Smith of New YorkState; one sister, Mrs. Evelyne Valentine of Chestertown, N.Y.;and one son, Carl F. Graves, who holds a responsible position inthe engineering offices of the New York Central lines at NewYork City. He also leaves one grandson, Gordon Haines Weymouth,two-year-old son of Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Weymouth, Jr., ofLongmeadow. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 4 at Graham'schapel, 37-39 Howard Street, Rev. Claude Allen McKayofficiating. Burial will be Thursday morning at Minoa, NY.
