Narrative
There has been great difficulty in identifying Jonathan Chapinwho married Elizabeth Burt. He was concerned in the Land BankScheme of 1740, though already living in King's Field, as Palmerwas then called. The Land Bank was almost exclusively an EasternMassachusetts enterprise, and the only other Chapins concernedin it were known to be of eastern families, rather than from theConnecticut Valley. Exhaustive study has been made of allpossible Jonathans in this district; also carefyl study of LandBank records, deeds, etc. and by a process of elimination wearrive at the theory that Jnoathcn, son of David and Lydis(Crump) Chapin is our best guess, but absolute proof isimpossible.
