Jonas Cutter, for the past thirty years proprietor of the CutterHouse in Jaffrey, formerly kept by his father, the late EthanCutter, ws born in this town, December 9, 1833. He isrepresentative of a well-known Jaffrey family which has beenidentified with the hotel business here for three generations,and members of which have been prominent in local publicaffairs. John Cutter, Mr. Cutter's grandfather, a native ofWoburn, Massachusetts, settled in Jaffrey in 1789 or about thattime, and followed the trade of a tanner and currier. Hemarried Abigail Demary, who was of French ancestry, and they hadthe following children: John, Jonas, Benjamin, Ethan, Ermina,Cyrus, Esther, Nathaniel, Hepsy, Emeline, Paulina, and Abigail.Jonas Cutter has been in the hotel business since completing hiseducation, and in 1867 he became proprietor of the noted summerhostelry that had long been carried on by his father. The houseis situated on elevated ground at the foot of Mount Monadnock, amagnificent view of which is to be obtained from the veranda,and for invigorating air and wild, picturesque scenery thislocality is unsurpassed.
