He resided in Jaffrey, where he had been keeper of a publichouse nearly forty years. Was been town treasurer of Jaffreyseveral years; was postmaster some fifteen years, and sustainedother local offices with credit. Ethan Cutter, father of Jonas, was born in Jaffrey, April 11,1795. He carried on the hotel of which his son is nowproprietor for upward of forty years, having taken possession ofit in 1826. He was widely and favorably known throughout thissection both as a genial host and an able public official. Heoccupied various public positions of trust, including those ofPostmaster and Town Treasurer, which he held for many years.He was a charter member and once Master of Charity Lodge, F. &A. M. of Jaffrey. Ethan Cutter died October 24, 1889, in hisninety-fifth year. Nancy S. Blodgett, his wife, whom he marriedJanuary 16, 1827, was a daughter of Timothy Blodgett, ofFitzwilliam, New Hampshire. She became the mother of twochildren: Elizabeth S., born December 24, 1827, and Jonas, thesubject of this sketch. Elizabeth S. is the widow of Geroge F.Lawrence, a native of Jaffrey, formerly a fruit and producedealer in Boston, and she is residing in that city with her twochildren: George E, born may 24, 1860; and Nancy B., born March13, 1864.
