"Richard, husbandman, Boston, adm. chh. 6 (11) 1638, frm. May13, 1640. He was dismissed to the gathering of a ch. at Rowley24 (9) 1639. His first wife Ann was bur. April 4, 1658; and hem. March 1, 1658-9, Ann, widow of John Trumble. She deposed 30March, 1675, ae. about 60 years. Ch. John bapt. at Bo. 13 (11)1638, Robert, (deposed in 1662, ae. 36 years,) Mercy b. 4 (5)1640, Faith b. 30 (1) 1644, Sarah, (name written and crossedout in 1647.)He was bur. May 14, 1678. Will dated 25 April, prob. 23 May,1678, beq. to wife Ann, as by mar. contract; to son Robert andhis son Richard; to son-in-law Joseph Boynton, his wife Sarahand ch. Elizabeth, Samuel and Sarah B.; to daus. FrancesQuilter, Jane Wilson, Dorothy Chapman and Mercy Warener. His daughter Dorothym. Thomas Abbot, and later Edward Chapman; and Elizabeth m.Nathaniel Weare."RICHARD, Rowley 1639, came in the Truelove, 1635 aged 34, orrather more, emb. at London, 17 Sept. hav. in Apr. sent, perhapshis w. Eliz. in the Planter, s. William, and Francis, in theRebecca; and d. Eliz. in the Susan and Ellen, under care ofvarious friends, freem. 13 Mar. 1639, had liberty the yr. bef.to plant, with others, at Hampton, ..." "He was made a freeman of the latter town [Rowley], 13 May 1640.He served on the trial jury, 1651, 1659, 1664, and on th grandjury in 1653, 1654, 1655, and 1662. He was presented in court,18 Oct. 1650, for breach of the peace in striking "EzekielNorthn" in the face with a Staff or goad, being fined threeshillings. From the smallness of the fine the court must havethought he had some provocation....In 1668, Richard Swan suedJohn Morgan for taking away John Hudson, servant of said Swan.He won the case, the boy to be returned to him. Morgan wascommander of the Bristow [Bristol?] ship. lying in Marbleheadharbor and Hudson was his cousin. Morgan took the boy from Swanand gave him to Oliver Purchase."
