Narrative
Penuel Titcomb resided in that part of the town which was laterto become Newburyport. He was involved in the dispute relativeto the building of a new meeting house near the east end of theWest Precinct. Because of the distance many had to travel toattend church on Pipestave Hill, there was a movement to buildthis new church but the General Court did not approve of theproject. In August, 1711, the Court ordered that "SamuelBartlet, John Ordway, deacon Joshua Brown, Joshua Bailey,Skipper Lunt and Penuel Titcomb be anew served by the sheriffwith a process and order of this court of nineteenth July,strictly forbidding them and their associates proceeding in thework of their intended meeting house and so forth, and saidpersons be summoned to attend this court on the second Wednesdayof their fall session.
