Narrative
Took oath of allegiance to the king in 1678. Was a cornet orstandard-bearer of a cavalry troop (commissioned officer). Ownedvessels engaged in West Indies trade. One of the vessels wastaken by Guillaume LaFauche, a Frenchman, in 1703, with a letterof marque. Benaiah, Jr., the mate, was forced to buy the vesselof LaFauche at an "extreme" rate, the master Robert Kimballbeing held hostage in France. In 1695 Titcomb bought 1/2 acrefrom Richard Dole (#4032), where he built his house. The housewas moved to Ipswich in 1920, and may be still standing. Itoverlooks meadows running to the ocean. There is a picture ofthe house in the Titcomb genealogy.
