Narrative
He met his death accidentally in his home by falling through acellar door and striking his head on a keg of nails. He wasburied at Hebron Baptist Cemetery. A clarifying note appended byAnna E. Irwin indicates that Joseph Lame Sr. and his wife MaryBates are buried in Hebron Cemetery and that their graves aremarked. Bound out to learn the tanner's trade. "John Vawtercontinues 'Among the early settlers in the county were ....East of Crooked Creek were ... Joseph Lame ... being Baptists.'"Bought property from the estate of Samuel Humphreys on 12 Dec1828. The Federal Census of 1790 shows his household: 1/1/1. Anolder uncle on his mother's side named Timothy Ewan, son ofJulius and Sarah (Middleton) Ewan, served in the RevolutionaryWar under General Washington and later emigrated westward. 1830Census: Household includes: males: 20-30 (2), 60-70 (1) females:15-20 (1), 40-50 (1), 70-80 (1); His will was contained in WillBook C. According to the County Clerk's Office, that book hasbeen lost. The following is an abstract of the probate record."Lame, Joseph, Sr. pr. bk.
