Narrative
Alice Thorndike accompanied her father to England in 1668 andwas baptized in Westminster Abbey 10 April 1669 being then "ofripe years" as the record states. She was left a substantiallegacy by her uncle Herbert Thorndike, a portion of which wasupon the condition that she never return to New England and thatshe marry a person who "should sincerely cleave to the Church ofEngland."
