Narrative

John Hatch and his brother Israel divided 260 acres given themby their father's will March 23, 1712/3. John's will, made October 21, 1726, was proved September 14,1737. To his wife Mary Hatch he left his entire estate duringher widowhood, but if she married again she was to have only theimprovement of one-third of the estate and the property whichcame to her from her own family, which she was to dispose of toher grandchildren. To his grandson Benjamin Hatch, one-half ofthe gristmill in Scituate, the cedar swamp in Hanover, thehomestead in Marshfield, a feather-bed and all tools ofhusbandry, provided he pay to his sisters Mary and Grace Hatch£100 apiece from the estate that came to him from his father. Tohis granddaughters Mary and Grace Hatch, the land in Marshfieldbought from Job Randall after the death of his wife, and theywere to dwell in his house until they married. His grandsonBenjamin Hatch was to live with his grandmother until he reachedthe age of twenty-one. Executrix: wife Mary. Witnesses: ThomasFoster, Arthur Howland, Abigail Howland. The estate was valuedat £2194. His books were worth £6.
