Narrative
Captain Stephen Bennett Hamilton (1841-1906) son of Simeon Sr.and Sarah Bennett Hamilton (Son James' family) married HarrietE. Webber. At the age of 14 he was on board the Sloop Leaderwith his father, Captain Simeon Sr., and at 21 bought aninterest in the sloop on his own, and "ferried stone for 2years". Later he bought an interest in Hamilton & Co. on StoneWharf with his cousin James Monroe Hamilton. About 1890 he didgeneral merchandising on his own. He owned considerableproperty on Chebeague-- was Postmaster and Selectman.
