Saint John's graveyard He died of the effects of a fall fromhis carriage. He is buried beneigth an old tower, still standing(1895), in the ancient graveyard of Saint John's, at Hackney,north of Victoria Park and southwest of Hackney Common, not farfrom the French (Huguenot) Hospital; here his tomb may be seen.The church of Saint John's originally belonged to the KnightsTemplars, who dedicated it to Saint Augustine, but when theyfell, their property passed into the hands of their rivals, theKnights Hospitallers, or Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, whorededicated this church to theeir own patron saint.
