Ffom the Illinois Adj.General's Reports1861-1865, Captain Hunting enlisted as a private on 10 Sept 1861at Freeport, Illinois and re-enlisted as a veteran 7 Dec 1863.He was discharged 14 July 1864 for promotion to "the 5th USColored Heavey Artillerery."
