Soon after their settlement, the Hawkes residence was burned. A servant girl and two twin infants were inside at the time, and a safe escape was made by all three. It was on Adam's property that iron ore was found. He established a bloomery near Lynn in 1630. In 1646, the proprietors of the Iron Works purchased 45 acres of land to open a new water course and enlarg the existing pond. In doing so, they flooded three acres of the Hawkes proper |
