In any event, thefamily were at Freeman in Somerset Co. for the census of 1810which shows "John Daer" with one male aged under 10 years (JohnJr.), one male aged 10-15 (Samuel) and one male aged 26-44 (Johnhimself); females: one aged 10-15 (probably a mistake and shouldbe under 10 and represent Paulina), one aged 16-25 (?), and oneaged 26-44 (Susanna). The 1820 census at Freeman shows John N. Dyer [sic] with twomales under age 10 (Azor and John Jr., though the latter wasalready 10 years old), one male 16-26 (possibly Samuel, who wasmarried this year), and one male aged 26-45 (John Nichols Dyar);females: one aged 10-15 (Paulina) and oneaged 26-44 (Susanna). Two of these persons were engaged inagriculture. The census of Freeman in 1830 shows John N. Dyer [sic] with onemale aged 15-19 (Azor), one aged 20-29 (John Jr.) and one aged50-59 (John Nichols Dyar). Only one female is listed, and she isaged 20-29 (Paulina). Why was wife Susanna not listed? She didnot die until 1841.The census of Freeman in 1850 shows John N. aged 72, a farmerwith $700 in real estate, born in Mass; wife Sarah aged 50 bornin Maine; son Hiram N. aged 7 years.John Nichols Dyar died in 1853, AE 74 and was buried in the DyarCemetery, West Freeman, Maine. The 1860 census of Farmington shows widow Sarah aged 60 with$450 in real estate and $225 in personal properties; son HiramN. aged 16 in school. The next census, that of 1870, shows widow Sarah Dyer aged 70years keeping house, with $600 in real estate and $300 inpersonal property, born in Maine.
