Narrative

Notes from Carl Fisher GRAVES state that Anson C. FISHER was born in Oberkatz, a town in northeastern Bavaria, near the Kingdom of Saxony - just south of the town of Hof, in the department of Oberfranken, south of Weimer; and east of Thuringerwald. This seems to contradict his obituary. He also states that Anson died in Alameda, CA at the Sybrandt's.

ANSON FISHER DEAD IN 'FRISCO
He was one of the oldest engineers on the central road!

WENT ON EXCURSION
Anson Fisher, of this city [NYC], one of the oldest and best known of the Central-Hudson engineers, died in San Francisco, Wednesday. Mr. Fisher had not been in good health for several years past and hoping that a change would benefit him, he accompanied the excursion given the engineers of the road and their families to San Francisco by the railroad company. Mr. Fisher was taken worse at St. Louis and several members in the party advised him to return home, instead of continuing his long journey. Mr. Fisher insisted on accompanying the excursionists and apparently rallied from his sickness. Later, he had another bad spell which resulted in his death.

Mr. Fisher was born in Old Manlius, now Minoa. near Syracuse, about 64 years ago. He entered the employ of the Central-Hudson when a young man and early in the fifties he was made an engineer in the Mohawk Division. For several years Mr. Fisher ran the private engine Mercury, which was derailed near Green's Corners in 1856, and was buried for some time under about ten feet of snow. Mr. Fisher had been running passenger trains on the Mohawk division nearly continuously since 1856, and he had been assigned to nearly all the most important runs. After the death of Engineer Isaac Vrooman of Utica, who for years ran the accomodation to Utica, Mr. Fisher was given that run. Lately he had been running a good engine in Albany. He was always faithful to the trusts imposed on him. Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife and two daughters. He also leaves three brothers, Charles, Henry and Christian FISHER of Manlius. Mr. Fisher was a member of the Masonic fraternity, being affiliated with the Syracuse lodge. He was also a Knight Templar. Mr. Fisher was considered as a connoisseur of the value and beauty of museums. Very many friends on and off the road will learn of his death with some sorrow.

FLY-ROD and BREECH-LOADER
Angling is gaining in favor among the robust and ruddy-cheeked young women of Albany. A party of ladies, under the care of Anson C. Fisher, the well-known engineer, is enjoying the pleasures of the stream at Thousand Island park, on the St. Lawrence river, where Mr. Fisher has taken the Gilmour cottage for the season. The party comprises Misses Nellie and Hattie Fisher, Miss Neil Gilmour and Miss Evelyn Graves. The two last named are respectively the soprano and the alto of Prof. Belding's choir, and their tuneful voices will do much to enliven the summer hours spent in the cottage and on the river. Another ladies party has been formed and will join Mr. Fisher's bevy of anglers and pleasure-seekers at a later day.
