Narrative
Edward was the first heir apparent in English history to beproclaimed, Prince of Wales. He was a Plantagenet King ofEngland (the House of Anjou) whose incompetence and distaste forgovernment finally led to his deposition and murder. In January1327, Parliament forced Edward to resign and proclaimed thePrince of Wales king as Edward III. On September 21 of that yearEdward II was murdered by his captors at Berkeley Castle,Gloucestershire.
