Narrative
Per history of Archibald Alexander Schenck - 1936: WilliamTorrey enlisted in 1776 and became one of General GeorgeWashington's aides. Had charge of the squad that conducted MajorJohn Andre, British spy, to the scaffold. Andre expected to beshot. When he saw the scaffold he turned to Lieutenant Torreyand said, "My God, is it this?"William Torrey was at the battle of White Plains William Torreyrose to the rank of Captain and became on of the originalmembers of the Society of the Cincinnati, July 17, 1786.History of Archibald A.
