Narrative
Moved to Temple, NH, in 1758 -- possibly earlier since his deedis dated July 24, 1756. Together with his brother, EphriamHeald, "he bought and cleared what were then called Lots No. 4and 5, Range VIII, in the north part of what was then calledPeterboro Slip, or Sliptown." Lot 4 later was occupied byNathan Avery and Lot 5 by James Heald, grandson of Deacon PeterHeald, and son of Peter Heald, Jr. Peter Heald, Jr., was thefirst male child born in the town of Temple, NH. "He begot thefirst male child that was born in town, and named it afterhimself; he erected the first framed building in the town; andhe was the first of the sect of Universalists in the town."Deacon Peter being quite the only Universalist in the parts atthat period, was for a long time regarded with a sort of horrorby the urchins, and I am told by one of them whose head is nowsilvered with age, that when he was the Deacon coming, he wouldsteal round and jump over the wall and lie there until thefearful man was gone quite out of site." (p. 7) Deacon PeterHeald was a Universalist. He remained a Tory throughout theRevolutionary War.
