THE LINE OF ANTHONY EMERY, 1601 - 1681.On 22 MAY 1676, Rebecca petitioned for her late husband'sproperty on Staten Island, NY stating that he had years agoabandoned her and their three small children The husband whoabandoned her would have been Thomas Sadler. Only two of thechildren are mentioned, Anthony Sadler and William Weymouth, theother child is unknown. Rebecca married first, Portsmouth, RI, Robert Weymouth, diedbefore 24 Dec 1661. Married second in RI, Thomas Sadler.Married third, 9 Mar 1680, Daniel Eaton, died 11 Jul 1704.Married , Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island, Rebecca EMERYdied 18 Jul 1719, , Little Compton,Newport Co., Rhode Island, daughter of Anthony EMERY andFrancis.The marital career of Anthony Emery's daughter Rebecca istangled and cloudy. We give here the sequence of eventsinvolving her husbands. On 29 June 1654, "Goodman Greene, RobertWaymouth, & James Emery" were co-defendants in a civil suit. On4 July 1659, "[u]pon suspicion of some misbehavior by Tho[mas]Sadler towards the court of Dover, ... Tho[mas] Sadler & AnthonyEmery" jointly bonded themselves to the court. On the same day,the grand jury presented "Thomas Sadler & Rebeccah Waymouth forriding abroad together on the Sabbath day". On 1 July 1662,letters of administration were granted to Major Shapleigh on"Robert Waymouth his estate". On 7 July 1663, letters ofadministration were granted to James Emery on "Robert Waymouthhis estate". On the same day, James Emery petitioned "aboutfreeing his father Anthony Emery from a bond of £20 forfeit tothe county for Tho[mas] Sadler his non-appearance for whom hewas bound". On 9 March 1680/1, Anthony Emery deeded land to "mydaughter Rebeckah Sadler". On 10 May 1700, James Emery deededland to "my sister Rebecca Eaton alias Sadler".
