William Stevens, from Gousham, England, came to Newbury, Mass.in April 1638, probably on the ship "Confidence". He marriedElizabeth Bitfield 19 May 1645 in Newbury and died there 19 May1653.Will of William Stevens - The will of William Stevens of Newburywas proved in the Salem court 30 : 4 : 1653. The following copywas taken from the original on file in the office of the clerkof courts at Salem, volume II, leaf 57.Witneƒƒe by theƒe preƒents that I william Steuens of Newbury inthe County of Eƒƒex in Newengland yeoman, being ƒicke and weakeof body but through gods mercy of perfect memory do make my laƒtwill and teƒtament firƒt I bequeath my ƒoule into the hands ofmy bleƒƒed Redeemer, with aƒƒured hope of a bleƒƒedreƒurrection, and when it ƒhall pleaƒe the lord to take me outof this world I bequeath my body to bee buryed in the buryingplace of Newbury, and for my worldly Goods I bequeath my houƒeand two parts of my land both vpland and meadow to my eldeƒt Sonwhen hee ƒhall be of the age of one and twenty yers and twentypounds to my ƒon Samuell Steuens when he ƒhalbe of the like ageof twenty one yeares, and I appoint Elizabeth my wife my Soleexecutrix of this my laƒt will and teƒtament and all the reƒt ofmy worldly goods vndiƒpoƒed of I giue to my wife to bring vp mychildren in the feare of god till they ƒhalbe at the aforeƒsaidage only the third parte of my land after my wiues deceaƒe givento my Son John Steuens, and in caƒe either of my children ƒholddye before they ƒhall come to the age of twenty one yeares thenthe twenty pounds ƒhall returne to my wife.
