The following Soule genealogy was written by Hannah Ells SOULE (Jesse, Jebediah, Jebediah, Moses, John, George) ~1865 and updated by Etta May DAVIS, her daughter, ~1940:

SOULE GENEALOGY The Soules came from Bantry, England. The Soule family of this country are the descendants of George Soule, one of the Mayflower Pilgrims and the thirty-fifth signer of that famous social compact. The name is an English surname and was early written in the colonial records Soal, Sole, Soul, now Soule. George Soule came, with others of that religious band, from that quarter of England known as the cradle of dissention - the point or junction of the three counties - York, Lincoln and Nottingham. George Soule came to this country a minor. He was entered on the list of passengers as an apprentice to Governor Winslow, living in his family. How long these relations of apprenticeship to the Governor continued is not known. In 1623, he was granted in his own right one acre of land on the South side of the brook to the baywards. In 1633, he became a freeman of the colony and was taxed that year for his share in the current expenses of their simple government. He had a grant of land near Powder Point which he sold in 1638, when he, with Myles Standish moved across the Bay to found the town of Duxbury, Mass. He represented the town in the general court of Plymouth in 1642-45-46-51-53-54 having for colleagues John Alden, Southworth, Pabodie and Starr. He was the original prospector of four new settlements. In 1637 he was a volunteer against the Indians. He was on of the committee to revise the colony laws. He was on of the principal promoters of Bridgewater, Mass. and Dartmouth, Mass. He married, not earlier than 1623, Mary Beckett, one of the passengers recorded on the "Ann", and her consorts of 1621 in company with Barbara Allen, Patience and Fear Brewster. Mary Soule was indicted for absence from church March 1658. He had by this time built a house. He had eight children. Zachariah, Mary, George, Susannah, John, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, & Benjamin.
His property descended to his sons. George(5) Nathaniel(8) Dartmouth, Middleboro to Mary(4), Elizabeth his daughters. John Soule, his son was born 1632. he was administrator of the estate of Samuel Chandler. In 1683, he married Hester Dewesbury (Dela Noye) the French Protestant, who joined the Pilgrims in Holland. A library is mentioned among his property - a rare thing in those days. He (John) resided in Duxbury near Island Creek. He died wealthy for those days. He died in 1751. He had seven children. Moses Soule, son of John resided in Duxbury near Island Creek. Little is known of Moses and long search has failed to reveal the name of his wife (who would have been Jebediah Soule's mother). Moses was a large land proprietor in several towns. He died wealthy. Moses had eight children - Isaac, Ichabod, Elsie, Gideon, Deborah, Cornelius, Barnabas, Jebediah. Jebediah, youngest son of Moses, married Tabitha Bishop Nov. 2,1741 in Duxbury, Mass. She was baptized in adult life in North Yarmouth, Oct. 26, 1766. Jebediah had eight children Ichabod, Deborah, Jebediah, Jonathan, James, Tabitha, Jesse, Mercy. Jebediah, son of Moses, emigrated to North Yarmouth from South Shore Duxbury. He was born in 1720. He went to Long Island, Casco Bay, where he settled. His descendants comprise more than half of the present numbers of persons who have borne the nameos Soule in Freeport, Maine. Ichabod, eldest son of Jebediah died previous to 1750, leaving daughter Abigail, who received nineteen acres from her grandfather's estate in the division among the heirs. Elsie, married Barnabas Berry before 1756 and received 3 1/2 acres ofmarshland from her father's estate. Gideon was an eccentric person. Deborah married John Hunt and received fourteen acres of upland from her father's estate. Cornelius born 1703 and removed to North Yarmouth about 1726, where he resided until his death. He, Cornelius, soon became prominent in town affairs being largely interested in land speculation. In the Registry of Deeds of York County no less than thirty transfers occur in as many years to which he was a party, and probably that does not represent all his business. In 1742 he acted as messenger for Governor Shirley in transporting some official letters from Boston to the eastern frontier. His journal of the trip is preserved in the Mass. Archives Vol. XXXVIII, worthy of production. Barnabas was born in 1705. Deborah, second child of Jebediah was baptized Sept. 15, 1765, at the First Church Falmouth, Maine by David Mitchell, Esq.
