The spelling of the family name appears as "Colburn" or"Coburn", varying from one generation to another. AlthoughJonathan used the Coburn spelling, his son,Ephraim, reverted tothe original spelling, i.e. Colburn.Jonathan was a member of Capt. John Joslin's company ofMinutemen at Cambridge on April 19, 1775, and later served inthe same regiment under the command of Capt. Wilder. He alsofought in Capt. Samuel Stickney's company in the regiment ofAbijah Stearn, which marched into the battle of Saratoga.
