Narrative

George was known as "Captain George" for his success in tradingwith the Indians. For his service in the Massachusetts Colony, he was granted atract of land in Carver and upon this land, some of hisdescendants still live. He was a large landowner and had a largefamily. He sold his house on Mill St., Plymouth, to JosephMitchell for 90 shillings in 1711. George resided in Plymouthuntil 1711. The next year he was described as being fromPlympton, where he was already the owner of considerable land.He gave deeds to each of his sons during the later years of hislife, of land near him and near to each other, on which it seemsthat most of them resided. One deed conveys to his sons andsons-in-laws the privilege and the right to take iron ore fromSampson's pond in Carver for which they are to pay him twoshillings pence per ton. The descendants of George still in thistown, and occupy lands that have been in their families forgenerations. It seems fair inference that he must have beenquite wealthy. His will disposes of added quantities of landamong his sons, and the grandchildren and directs the payment ofsmall legacies to his daughters. Will of George Barrow ofPlympton made 4 September 1750, mentions, among other children, daughter Deborah Benson, wife of Caleb.
