Obituary - Laura Phibbs BarrowsLaura Phibbs Barrows, of West Hartford, was born August 27, 1954in Winchester, VA to Dawn Glick Phibbs and the Reverend RaymondPhibbs. She died Thursday, January 16, 2003 in HartfordHospital. Prior to running the family car service, she workedwith preschoolers at First Church of Christ Congregational inWest Hartford and ran a day care in her home. She was apolitical activist, an eclectic artist and was active in foodco-ops. Laura's life centered around her family, community andthe business she had created with her husband, Dan. She was anavid gardner, a phenomenal conversationalist and a lover ofchildren and all things absurd. She was passionate about ideasand books, and she embraced alternative notions of family allher life. She was a collector of a grand assortment of objectsthat interested he, including 252 vegetarian cookbooks. She issurvived by her husband, Dan Barrows; her children, Ned Barrows,Brendan Barrows, Louise Barrows, Dan "Chip" Barrows, Jr., andHillary Santopietro; daughte-in-law, Claudia Barrows; son-in-lawScott Santopietro; and grandchildren, Samantha, Sabrina, Andrewand Nicky; brothers Jonathan Phibbs and Curt Phibbs; and sistersAnne Phibbs, Catherine Phibbs, and Molly Spurlock. Laura is alsosurvived by a vast community of friends; and by her dogs. Boband Murphy. Laura fought colon cancer for over four years andbeleived in the importance of continued research and education.
