Narrative
Edward Colborne came to America aboard the ship,"Defense" in1635. He first settled in Ipswich, Mass., and later moved toDracut, where he built a large and sturdy home called "GarrisonHouse", which is reported to stand to this day on Varnum Ave.,opposite Totman Road. Ownership of this house passed downthrough many generations of Colburns, the last occupants beingNathaniel B. Colburn and his sons, Edmund, Howard, and Walter, after whom ownership passed out of the family.Owing to a fire which destroyed many of the early records atIpswich, exact birthdates for the first 6 children are unknown.
