Narrative
The original Richard Dana whose name appears in the records ofCambridge, Mass about 1640, nine years after the town wassettled, and who held in turn the Offices of Constable, Surveyorof Highways, and Juror, was the progenitor of a very long lineof descendents. The Richard Dana of 1640 was born somewherebetween 1612 and 1620, he is generally thought to be of Frenchdescent and to have emigrated to America from England. Richardmarried Anna Bullard who died says Paige probably July 15, 1711.His death is recorded in Sewells well know diary under the dateof April 2, 1720. He fell from a scaffold in his barn. Richardwas the father of seven sons and four daughters, his oldestbeing Jacob and the third a son by name of Benjamin, the namesof the others are not given.
