Narrative
Mattthew Griswold moved to Erie, Pennsylvania in 1865 at theclose of the Civil War. He entered into partnership with hiscousins John Carl Selden and Samuel Selden (born Erie, PA; July9, 1821, and died June 25, 1882). In 1873 the Selden andGriswold Manufacturing Company was formed at 10th and ChestnutStreets in Erie, Pennsylvania. In 1884 Matthew bought out theSeldens. He was a member of the 52d and 54th Congresses.
