William Austin was also known as "Bill" or "Will" Austin andreferred to by earlier historians as the `famous Indian scout.'His only known child, William, Jr., was captured as a small boyand raised by Indians. William, Jr., would have been about fiveyears old when King Philip's War broke out in June of 1675, atSwansea, Massachusetts. William, Jr. is said to have married anIndian princess and after his marriage he left the tribe andsettled in Bath, Maine.
