BIRT PLAC Panhandle Precinct, Livingston Co KYC.O. was the youngest of four children and the oldest survivingchild. At the age of 17 he began clerking for T.S. Lee & Co. atPaducah. He remained there some time and then returned toLivingston Co. where he rode deputy sheriff two years for hisuncle, D. H. Piles. He then went into the milling business atCairo but remained only a short time, when he returned toSmithland and served as deputy circuit clerk under J.W. Cade,for about 4 years. He then went to Arkansas where he remainedseven months. He returned to Smithland where he remained a shorttime then moved to Pueblo, Colorado, where he acted as deputyclerk for about one year. Returning to Livingston Co., he farmedfor about a year and then made another trip west. He was absentfor about 13 months. Returning to Livingston Co. he was electedto the office of circuit clerk in August 1880. He married MaggieHandlin Dec 1882.Conrad O. had a cousin, Samuel Henry Piles, son of Samuel HenryPiles and Gabriella Lilliard, who was a U.S. Senator and lawyer.Samuel was born in Livingston Co. Kentucky in 1858 and was ofScottish and Irish descent.
